Paula Hian to Show Abstract-Art Inspired Fall 2004 Collection
Paula Hian's Fall 2004 collection will hit the runway Tuesday, February 10 at the Olympus
Fashion Week in Bryant Park. The show will take place at 5 p.m. at The Atelier in the tents.
Fans of Hian will recognize her trademark sleek and modern designs that evoke whimsical and
sexy glamour. The colors, details and combinations of patterns and shapes that make up the
Paula Hian Fall 2004 collection are inspired by the abstract themes of eminent modem artists
such as Jean Dubuffet, Jackson Pollock and Ellsworth Kelly.
"This collection is bold and alive," says Hian. "The designs incorporate color and structure
creating an abstract presence."
The fall 2004 designs, typified by clean lines and fluid, modern looks include dresses, suits,
evening gowns and jumpsuits. The color palette, inspired by Pollock, Kelly and DuBuffet,
features vibrant primary colors of red, yellow, blue, light blue, cream and black with accents of
gold. Fabrics range from rich tweeds with nubby textures to heavy and light weight jerseys.
Evening wear fabrics include silk crepe, georgette, and satin.
Items to watch include the first design that will grace the runway on Tuesday - a dress featuring
an abstract combination of yellow jersey and blue tweed in the form of a hip-length fitted bodice
and full skirt. Other items include a cropped jacket and strapless dress in hand-painted silk,
Jackson Pollock splatter style.
"One of my favorites is inspired by the expressionistic sculptures of Dubuffet. It's a jersey cut-up
dress with red, navy blue and cream colors with occasional stripes," says Hian.
On the runway, the hair, by Ricardo Rojas at Warren-Tricomi and Steven Dillon at Sally
Hershberger, mirrors the clean, structured and modern theme of Hian's collection. The models'
makeup, by Steven Aturo using ZA Cosmetics, illuminates the sculptural and architectural
inspiration of the collection, resulting in a simple and strong, yet clean, look that intensifies the
designs.

The abstract-art inspired collection radiates the luxury of ease message that is at the heart of
Hian's basic design philosophy.
