Academy of Arts seven designers who showcased their spring 2011 collections were talented and each of their collections featured labor intensive detailing as well as cutting edge innovations with textiles and craftsmanship.
Standouts include the translucent latex raincoats, trenchcoats, and shorts by Jungah Lee, which juxtaposed her other separates made from hand-dyed silk.
April Howard's unique treatment to leather seemed to evoke anarchy, as the silhouettes seemed to defy any of the conventional separate pieces in shape or function. The capes and shorts and dresses wrapped up the models in a beautifully burnished leather.
Maria Korovilas's beaded work was breathtaking, and the bejeweled details on the embellished pieces were reminiscent of armor or crowned jewels found with an old knight's horde, but with shapes that appeal to the modern day.
