Bold, Provocative, Energetic, Futuristic…Laura Poretzky for Abaete!
Holding the brand on her shoulder, Laura transformed the house's offering for Winter ‘07 into a new stark and bold direction. While referencing a touch of mod, Laura funneled through symmetrical, architectural and futuristic hints as well. Sequins, jeweled embellishments and Navajo prints added a mesmerizing contrast and slightly referenced previous Abaete collections. To ruche or to gather was the question asked when it came to the dresses. There were dresses galore - - for those who believed this season would be an end to dresses. Black, navy, white and touches of silver and eggplant, turquoise, purple, and fuchsia told the story.
Styling was key here. Large hats, headbands, gloves were intertwined throughout the show, but held on to a consistent element. Patent leather and vinyl commanded attention, as Abaete showed calf length boots and platform stilettos, all in black or white. Continuing to build the successful business venture with Payless (the first collection was sold out), Poretzky is evolving the concept of designers partnering with commercial retailers. For those skeptical of these partnerships and their impact, take note of the editors in the tents wearing the Abaete for Payless Casey flats. This season's addition to the Payless repertoire will include totes and sunglasses.
