This season, Wenlan Chia puts a new spin on the Twinkle collection, injecting it with her Asian influences, bursts of bright colors, unique prints and a dash of Bohemia. As in the past, she designs for an individual whose taste is quirky, light-hearted and clever. Ironic gestures through details have become a Twinkle trademark, and the designer continues to tweak easy feminine dressing with her playful eye. Spring 2006 is a mix of periods and places, alluding to a surreal voyage from the exotic Tahitian isles to the demure British countryside.
Always a lover of the arts, Wenlan’s signature prints were inspired by Gauguin's sultry South Pacific, Matisse's exuberant expressionist cutouts, antique Japanese Kimonos and wood cut patterns. Hand-embellished beading, patchwork, tulle appliqué and crochet trim are all mixed and matched. Summery cotton voile, linen, and eyelet lace are cleverly combined with rich silk jacquard, chiffon, cashmere and lurex.
Embracing a range of silhouettes from tailored to voluminous, Wenlan outfits the Twinkle client with a wide variety of day to evening options. The seasons offerings include billowing washed silk jacquard skirts, chiffon baby doll tunics, linen lurex twill short suits, ruffled silk anoraks, color blocked cashmere kimono knits, and slouchy crochet cardigans.
Spring ‘06 also marks the introduction of Twinkle T’s, a line of high quality cotton tops in the unique Twinkle palette that manages to be simultaneously colorful and subdued. Wenlan interprets the tee with a dose of whimsy that has become her signature. Her shapes offer the Twinkle girl an alternative casual easiness. It all makes for an expanding Twinkle collection that exudes sexy innocence and pared down luxury.
