Kai Milla's Fall 2007 collection evokes a luxe, moody glamour. The Kai Milla woman is confident in her style. She's intelligent, sensuous, and unpredictable, and she values clothes that work with her modern, urban lifes+yle. The Kai Milla woman embraces the idea of Imperfect Perfection. She appreciates the best, but avoids anything overdone; and she knows how to achieve this balance in her dress and her life.
This season, luxurious materials and deep, rich hues are the starting point for the collection's sophisticated bent. Rounded shoulders, narrow high waists, low-cut backs, and open necklines are accentuated in a way that is feminine and chic. Fabrics are artfully manipulated to fold. pleat and ruche, creating geometric and asymmetrical silhouettes. A silver lame pencil skirt that is draped softly at the hip also flaunts precision seaming at the back. Classic gray jersey is puckered at the shoulder to create "scar smocking" and then tucked to create an entrance-making deep-v dress. A deep claret baby alpaca coat is tailored into a slim architectural cocoon shape. Double-bonded chiffon is treated like a knit in a bias-cut cowl-neck top with pleated cuff details. The embellishment is in these details.
Milla's background in art is the influence behind her choice of abstract prints and pigment-rich colors from blackened plum and the darkest berries to espresso and charcoal. Above all, Milla's understanding of what it is to be a woman is reflected in the collection's flattering lines that speak to all body shapes. It is this ambition, to share her vision with every woman of every age, which drives Milla to design. Milla spends her time between her design studio in New York and Los Angeles, where she and her husband, Stevie Wonder live with their children.
